At the end of Part 1 of our conversation with Max Bernardini () in Milan, we promised a mystery guest. It’s author and historian Nicholas Foulkes (), who has written extensively about Patek Philippe, and even he couldn’t believe this one existed. The dial of this ref. 1579 reads “Gradué pour 5 respirations”. It’s an asthmometer scale, made for doctors to time a patient’s breathing.

While we were in town for the Watch Art Grand Exhibition, our friend Rich Lopez took John through an incredible collection of modern Patek Philippe watches at Sotheby's, each one with a double-signed Tiffany dial. The collection heads to auction in New York on December 7.
